Joyce & Bill Holmberg, NM State Director

The 2012 Spring Samboree was a great success with entertainment every night plus bingo, the usual games, seminars, craft classes, food, dancing and lots of visiting with friends.  That is what a Samboree is all about, isn’t it?

Friday at the State Committee Meeting there was much discussion about cutting down to one Samboree a year due to many factors and it was decided to do just that starting in 2013.  This was the last Spring Samboree for now.  At this time, however, there will still be two State Committee meetings that the chapter Presidents or their delegates will have to attend. One will be held at the State Samboree each year and the other will be held six months later at a time and place decided on by the director.

Speaking of director,  the State Samboree in Gallup in September will be my last Samboree as director and I want you to know it has been a wonderful experience.  Each and everyone of you has made that happen and I thank you for the opportunity you gave me to do this for two more years.  Of course, I didn’t do this job alone.  The State Grouch was with me the whole way, pulling the trailer and making sure that everything was distributed and then repacked, being my sounding board and supporting my decisions. I couldn’t have asked for a better state staff than what I had, either.  None of this could have happened without their tireless work and dedication to the state and to Good Sam.  My heartfelt thanks go to each and everyone of them for their support.

John & Marylin Schmidt and Terry & Melvin Towner have thrown their hats into the ring. Both couples have been on state staff, both are hard workers and I know that both have some great ideas to make your Samborees both fun and interesting.

We have already started the planning, gathering, etc. for the State Samboree in September and it is shaping up into another ‘really good show’ as Ed Sullivan used to say.  Ooops! I think that is truly showing my age, but if you understood that statement, you are right here with me and isn’t it fun?

Remember, we have a craft show coming up at the State Samboree along with all the games, tours, seminars, food and fun of getting together again.
